Development

For most first-time founders, I would recommend a Lean/MVP iterative approach, as it allows for the flexible modification of app functionality within the shortest possible timeframe.

What is Development Methodology and how to choose the right one?

A development methodology is the framework that governs how your product gets built - how work is planned, sequenced, tested, and delivered. It is the system that decides what gets built first, how changes are handled, and how quickly you see working results.

Here are the main approaches and when each makes sense:

Waterfall (Sequential)

Everything is planned upfront, then built in strict order: requirements → design → build → test → launch. The risk: you don’t see a working product until near the end, so a wrong assumption early on is expensive to fix.

Agile (Iterative)

Work is broken into short cycles (sprints - I primarily work in one- or two-week sprints), each producing something usable. Priorities can shift between cycles as you learn. This is the default for most startups and MVPs.

Lean / MVP-first

A focused version of Agile aimed at proving the core idea with the smallest possible build. You ship one essential feature, measure whether people use it, then decide what to build next.

AI-Driven Development

A newer layer applied on top of the above: using AI to accelerate architecture decisions, code generation, testing, and documentation. It compresses timelines and reduces cost - but only when guided by real engineering judgment.

How to choose the right one

Ask three questions:

  1. How clear is your scope? Fully defined → Waterfall. Still evolving → Agile or Lean.
  2. How tight is your runway? Limited budget or time → Lean/MVP-first to validate before you scale.
  3. How much will you learn as you go? If user feedback will reshape the product, you need an iterative approach that can absorb change without a rebuild.

That’s exactly the approach I take: I combine an AI-driven workflow with a decade of hands-on experience to select the methodology that fits your specific goals, timeline, and budget - not a one-size-fits-all process.
